For the past 20 years, Bhanwri has been spinning yarn.
“I believe women should earn, only then can they be independent “.- Bhanwri Devi
It is only after Bhanwri got married she started to realise that she likes to go out for work.
So when her mother-in-law was busy with household chores, she secretly learned how to spin and card the wool. Once she realised she can go forward with the support of her family she worked with dedication, day and night to refine her craft.
Later, inspired by her friend Chhelu, Bhanwri decided to look past her inhibitions. The journey from a spinner to a quality supervisor was filled with a lot of adventures. She recalls how she used to work for hours and then lose track of time.
Now in her early sixties, Bhanwri Devi represents the women of rural India who are not ready to be reduced by the circumstances they are in.
