We cross paths with countless people in our lives, each carrying a story of their own. Sometimes those encounters happen in the strangest, most unexpected ways. Sundariji, the artist of this carpet, always brings out a philosophical idea in her rugs. In this rug, she decided to weave a shared human journey with profound thoughts. She began with small diamond motifs and two mountains at the bottom. From there, she filled the rug with crooked, dotted, and dashed lines moving in different directions. To her, these lines are footsteps, marks people leave behind as they move through the world. She says that even in a crowd, where it feels like no one notices anything, every person’s journey is individually unique. At the centre, she tucked in a setting sun, so subtle you almost miss it at first glance, but it binds the beauty of the rug. For her, this rug is a reminder that none of us walks alone. Even when the journey feels heavy or confusing, knowing that everyone around us is moving through their own path makes the world feel a little more connected and a little less lonely. When she finished weaving, she named the piece “Kadam,” meaning "Footstep."
