A New Start a New Beginning

Behta Gusai, Uttar Pradesh

“My name is Shahin, I’m from Behta Gusai, Uttar Pradesh. I used to go to school in my childhood till I got punished by my teacher one day. I didn’t want to go to school, because I believed I’m not good enough. Since, my parents were illiterate and never believed that education is important, they never compelled me to continue going to school. I’m 19 years old now and I realized that I missed something very important, after I discontinued my studies which I shouldn’t have. When I came to know that a school is going to open in my neighborhood, I was excited. I started attending the classes and never missed them. My teacher was supportive and I learnt to read, write and count the ferra (weaved rows), do calculations of my expenses. Now, I can deposit and withdraw money from bank by myself.”
