JRF is a
field-based organization with the primary purpose to
organize carpet-weaving artisans at grassroot level and
build up their capacity so that they may have decent
earnings and lead a dignified life. Ours is not a
welfare organization. We promote social enterprises at
grassroot level. Creation of enterprises would help
those involved in graduating from being mere wage
earners to owners of their business. We perceive this
concept as the perfect vehicle for rural development.
Strategic Focus
Our core focus is on providing skill building and skill
up-gradation training to those artisans who are
associated with carpet weaving and thereby substantially
increase their income. Since most of the artisans
involved are women, increased income will make
meaningful contributions in alleviating poverty. We
facilitate income generating opportunities at the door
steps of artisans residing in the remotest of the
locations and forward & backward linkages with the aid
of our strategic partners. Many of our programmes touch
the lives of the community at large. We have identified
support services which would help in improving the life
standards of the artisans and their families. In the
coming years, we are poised for a bigger leap in
reaching out to 100,000 artisans all across India.
Promoting Grassroot level Institutions
In order to ensure sustainability of the development
interventions, it is essential to establish grassroot
level institutions that are owned and operated by the
beneficiaries themselves. JRF, exactly follows this
model by playing the role of a catalyst. We organize
artisans in Self Help Groups (SHGs) and help them set up
Common Facility Centres (CFCs). We empower the artisans
to set up village factories owned by the respective SHGs
with state-of-the art facilities. We also help them
register producer companies to further enhance their
income.
Strategic Partnerships
In our endeavor to achieve our goals, we have already
established partnerships with various reputed academic
institutes, carpet export houses, and other national and
international level organizations. Through such
partnerships, we envision to weave in lives together and
empower more and more entrepreneurs at the grassroot
level. |
