IRMA
was established in 1979 at Anand, Gujarat with the
support of the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation
(SDC), the Government of India, the Government of
Gujarat, erstwhile Indian Dairy Corporation and the
National Dairy Development Board to provide management
education, training, research and consultancy support to
co-operatives and rural development organizations in
India. IRMA is founded with the belief, borne out by Dr.
Kurien’s work in the dairy co-operatives which
revolutionized the dairy industry in the country, that
the key for effective rural development is professional
management. Professionalizing the management of rural
organizations calls for matching the specific but unmet
needs of the sector with the formal techniques and
skills of management professionals. Linking the two are
the ‘rural managers’ prepared by IRMA through its
two-year diploma (PRM) in rural management. Born out of
a maverick’s dream, IRMA has become a frontrunner in
professionalizing the development of India’s rural
sector. Over the years it has provided management
training, support and research facilities to students
committed to rural development and in this process it
has brought within its ambit several co-operatives,
non-government organizations, government development
agencies, international development organizations and
funding agencies.
Jaipur Rugs Foundation is a ground breaking
attempt to identify rural artisans and weavers who have
been exploited by the contractors or are denied the
enjoyment of normal rights because of their low economic
and social status. We strive to work towards increasing
the weavers or artisans standard of living, eradicating
social injustices, offering the right payment to the
weavers, women empowerment, enhancing the skill of the
workers through guided training, and eliminating the
middleman system so that the weavers are not exploited
in terms of payments and access to direct markets. Apart
from this, Jaipur Rugs Foundation also engages in
educating these rural weavers about their rights and
government policies pertaining to health, sanitation and
insurance. The aim is to improvise their current status
and increase their standard of living.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be the
symbiotic association between the two. This Memorandum
is to enrich research, capacity building, evaluation and
other collaborative efforts of mutual interest through
the development, modeling and sharing of best practice
in teaching and learning on indigenous matters. |
