Rajasthan
In Rajasthan, the Rural Business Hubs projects were
undertaken in: Bikaner, Ajitgarh, Sikar, Sainthal,
Dausa, Dausa Urban, Nainwa, Bundi, Shahpura, Jaipur,
Kekri, Ajmer and in Churu.
A. Carpet Weaving Training
The training sessions for carpet weaving were conducted
in collaboration with institutions such as District
Poverty Initiative Program (DPIP), Rajasthan Mission on
Livelihoods, Ambuja Cements and Women & child
development. These initiatives can be stated as follows:
- District Poverty Initiative Program, Government of Rajasthan
JRF in collaboration with the District Poverty
Initiative Program, Government of Rajasthan conducted
carpet weaving sessions for the artisans of Ratangarh,
Churu district. The training program covered 14 villages
of Ratangarh block and around 23 self help groups were
involved. This intervention supported 1900 weavers on
630 looms. On an average, this training program
benefited 600 families.
- Rajasthan mission on livelihoods
With the support of Rajasthan Mission on Livelihoods,
Jaipur Rugs Foundation had successfully completed carpet
weaving skills creation training programs for 100
trainees. Rajasthan Mission on Livelihoods is a
government supported agency that works towards
livelihood generation in Rajasthan.
- Ambuja Cement foundation
Ambuja Cement Foundation, a CSR wing of Ambuja cement
joined hands with
Jaipur Rugs Foundation for imparting training in carpet
weaving. This project was implemented in Pali with 10
self help groups benefiting at least 50 weavers.
- Ministry of Women and Child Development
JRF along with the Department of Women and Child
Development, Government of Rajasthan surveyed women self
help groups in 25 villages in Bhilwara to understand
their current status of families and their awareness in
subjects like health, sanitation and education.
B. Micro-finance with self help groups
With the support of Rajasthan Backward Classes Finance
and Development Corporation, a three year project was
initiated in Dausa. Basically, three self help groups
were formed named: Mahadev (18 members), Shankar,
Bahravanda (10 members ) and Shivam, Garh (11 members ).
These self help groups were supported with subsidies to
purchase their own looms
Bihar
A survey was conducted in the month of November 2007 to
understand the problems of the residents of the Gaya
village. People from nearby 7 villages (approx) were
mobilized in Gaya and 32 females from these villages
were trained on 10 looms in the early months of 2008.
West Bengal
With the financial support of National Research
Development Corporation and two NGOs i.e. “Vivekanand Seva Kendra” and “Shishu Udhayaan”, carpet training was
started in 24 South Pargana, a village in West Bengal.
The project was started with two looms and 12 trainees
in month of March 2006. After training, production work
was initiated. Among them, five artisans were selected
as Master trainers to further impart training to other
artisans in 2007. Two looms were installed in the
villages for this purpose and currently, 64 craftsmen
are working as trainers and are also working with the
production unit. This year JRF will be installing more
than 40 looms in the same villages on the demand of
community present.
